Calvary Day students have a number of opportunities to develop fascination, appreciation, and skill in music. In the Lower School, students participate in music class by using song, movement, instruments, and various activities to develop rhythm and expression. Students begin learning to play the recorder in fourth grade. In fifth grade, students have opportunities for band and chorus. Our fifth grade students also perform in the annual Georgia Day Parade each year, performing with fifes. All Lower School students perform in multiple programs throughout the year.
In the Upper School, students have the opportunity to participate in various instrumental ensembles. Apart from the students’ regular band period and concerts, they have many extracurricular performance opportunities. This past year’s opportunities included District Honor Band, the Middle School and High School Band Festival in Athens, a Habersham House performance, quintet performances at the Calvary Christmas Celebration downtown, the Veterans Day Parade, the Festival of Lights, and the Marching Cavaliers.
Our Marching Cavaliers provide spunk and entertainment for our fans during football season. The Marching Cavaliers begin camp in July to prepare to perform their field show during half-time at the varsity football games.
